Are Weight Loss Drugs The Answer?

It would be easy to believe that the global weight problem was just consigned to the adult population but that would be a lie; the worrying factor is that school children are also affected by this, according to recent studies. To cure this problem, some people have resorted to surgical measures whereas others have decided that adjustments to their food intake and an increase in physical activity are necessary. However, desperate people often make poor decisions and decide to take weight loss drugs as they are less expensive than surgery.

The idea behind the drugs is to quicken each person's metabolism enabling the weight to be lost much quicker. These drugs were quickly removed from circulation when tests revealed that one of the more dangerous side effects was an increased risk of heart valve disease. More recently, new drugs have been developed and prescribed by doctors; many of which are still waiting for FDA approval.

The chances are that if you asked enough people, someone will say they have used them and been happy with the results. This is obviously a very tempting prospect, to lose weight whilst eating the same diet. As a result of this, consumers everywhere have spent untold millions on these supposed wonderful weight loss drugs.

Even with all the testing and new techniques available for manufacturers, many side effects like nausea and diarrhea still exist with the new generation of weight control pills which, incidentally, can still be purchased over the counter. But they are not the only side effects and some can be more harmful than others. These include heart attacks, tremors, strokes, hallucinations and renal failure.

The best course of action before taking any type of pill is to consult your doctor; here are many factors that could contribute to any problems you experience and these do not necessarily stop when you cease taking the pills. The effects of withdrawing the pills are irritability, vomiting, depression, fatigue and insomnia to name only a few of the reported conditions.

Despite all the bad publicity, weight loss drugs do work but they are more successful if they are used in conjunction with a low calorie diet and regular exercise, preferably using a properly worked out exercise regime. A diet that is full of foods such as oats, rice, cereals, potatoes, vegetables and fruits contain a good supply of vitamins, minerals and essential fiber.

A person can jog every morning or sign up and workout in a gym but just as a person should consult a doctor before taking medicines, a doctor should also be consulted prior to undertaking any form of exercise. Of course a good exercise regime will combine exercises that increase the heart rate and exercises that use weights to tone the muscles. A regime of this kind would increase an individual's metabolic rate.

Natural Weight Loss

There isn't really a great secret with natural weight loss, just to eat properly (not too much) and of course get regular exercise; most people choose to ignore this advice. If it were that simple, which it should be, most slimming companies would be out of business; however, currently 35 percent of Americans are unable to prevent being overweight! Of course, once you are overweight, you usually want to trim down for a whole lot of reasons, some related to health, others having to do with looks.

What most people do not realize is keeping at the right weight is much, much easier than losing it. Subconsciously we all know that if we do not maintain a healthy food program for ourselves, we will start to add extra pounds.

Apparently even if you have lost weight with a calorie controlled diet, it doesn't take long if you come off it to revert to your old ways and you can start watching the pounds go back on again. The truth is there is a huge price to pay with your health when you are overweight and in particular, clinically obese. If you think about it, losing excess weight by natural methods is the most acceptable way to get rid of those extra pounds but too many people want a รข€˜quick fix' system.

Stick to a healthy diet that contains the correct food groups with a balanced amount from each if you want your natural weight loss program to be successful. A meal containing this group would be something like a baked potato, vegetables and some meat, lean of course but it would not contain gravy or sour cream.

Unfortunately, dietary fat contains higher amounts of calories than ordinary food which when consumed will just be converted to body fat more readily. Manufacturers have realized that there is a huge market for low-fat or even fat-free products but the propensity and popularity of these foods are not lowering the average weight of the nation.

What people fail to understand is that it isn't just fat in their food that is making them put on weight, it's the quantity of food they consume and the calorific content of it. If you really want to lose weight through a program you will need to dump the fat free products and eat small healthy snacks that are high in nutrition.

The subject of when to eat and how often can be contentious but the latest thoughts on the subject suggest that keeping to regular meal times and eating small nutritious snacks between meals may be the answer. When combined with regular exercise, this natural weight loss plan offers a way to lose unwanted pounds in the long run.

Acne Treatments

Acne, sometimes known as Zits, is a menace to people who suffer from this condition; however, many effective treatments are available. A great deal of money is being spent researching the condition; recent medical advancements are, in fact, proving to be very effective in treating this condition. Acne skin care products all fall into one of three main categories:
    *Those that help prevent the condition *Drugstore or Internet: Treatments that do not require a prescription *Prescription only: doctors or dermatologists prescribe special treatments

Probably the largest part of the skin care market is products designed to clean the skin and inhibit the formation of acne; these products can be anything from skin cleansers to makeup removers. This is a market where many people use this type of product every day to condition their skin; there use is not just confined to individuals who are suffer with the complaint. There are acne skin care products that are more specialized in there approach; they work by limiting the production of sebum/oil and prevent clogging of skin pores. These types of products are reducing the chance of oil staying in the pores and aiding the growth of harmful bacteria which assists the formation of the skin condition.

General skin care treatments also include special exfoliation products like skin peels; most are readily available over the counter at drug stores or even online. These work towards removing dead skin cells, reducing the possibility of pore-clogging and bacteria development. There are specialized acne skin care products available over-the-counter, they do not require the need of a prescription. These formulations contain the chemical benzoyl peroxide and the naturally occurring salicylic acid; they are designed to extract the excess oil that bacteria need to promote the development of acne.

Dermatologists recommend any product should have low concentrations of the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide (no more than 5.5 parts per hundred) if there is an adverse reaction; a safer alternative to benzoyl peroxide is anything containing alpha hydroxy acid. As with any type of zit cream, you may need to try a few acne skin care products until you find one that will suit your skin; however, if nothing you try seems to work, you should contact a dermatologist. Products that your dermatologist or doctor will recommend will only be available on prescription, they may include a course of antibiotics or topical ointments.

Under certain circumstances, having the infected material removed from the pores under a local anesthetic may be suggested by your dermatologist; this is not something you should ever attempt yourself. Another effective course of skin care treatment is hormone therapy; studies show that hormone based skin care treatments often prove effective. Tackling this skin condition is not the problem it once was and if treated properly permanently marked skin does not have to happen.
